Manchester very nearly became home to a ‘superset’ last year. But the breakdown of negotiations between neighbours 28 and 9 St John Street in November once again prompts the question as to why Manchester, with its large and vibrant Bar, does not yet boast a set with a three figure membership.
The ‘superset’ concept, born in Birmingham with the merger of 5 Fountain Court and St Philip’s chambers, has even found form during the past year across the Pennines in Leeds with the formation of Zenith Chambers. But Manchester remains impervious to attempts to construct sets of such size and depth.
