US firms split over cutbacks

Skaddens The majority of US law firms are refusing to rule out staff cutbacks in their City offices following European redundancies at Shearman & Sterling.

In a straw poll, a number of firms including Weil Gotshal & Manges and Latham & Watkins said they would not rule out cutbacks of their own if the economic climate did not pick up in the coming months.
