AuldSweeping reform of the criminal justice system looks almost certain to end the use of juries in complex fraud cases in favour of specialist panels — following recommendations from the long-awaited Auld Review.

The report by Lord Justice Auld, published on Monday (8 October), recommends that in serious and complex frauds the nominated trial judge should have the power to direct the trial by himself and two lay members drawn from a specialist panel established by the Lord Chancellor.
