International law firm Coudert Brothers has won Johannesburg-based City Power as a new client, after advising on one of the largest investments in South Africa in recent years.

The New York-based firm advised the South African state power company on a privatisation scheme that will see a consortium, led by US energy giant AES, buy a 50% stake in City Power.
The City of Johannesburg will then buy back power generated by AES over a 20 year period in a deal worth r2.5bn (£188m).
