There is no doubt that Simmons & Simmons’ long-awaited move into London’s Citypoint Tower has raised the firm’s profile. But for veteran legal technologist Chris Roberts, the project’s successful completion is the culmination of more than a year’s work and a major opportunity for his team to overhaul and update the firm’s IT strategy. “The move was an opportunity to get our procedures and documentation together,” he says.

For Roberts, who was a member of the project steering group, responsible for the technical integration of all voice and data, the move was last year’s top priority. “Because we have known about the move for a long time, we have been holding off on upgrading bandwidth for the past two or three years,” he says. This was partly because much of the cabling was embedded in the fabric of the building, but mainly because he feared that disturbing it might create new problems.
