Simmons & Simmons senior partner Bill Knight is retiring next September after five years at the helm of the City firm. An election to find his successor will be held in February, with Knight’s successor most likely to announced in early March.

His decision to step down comes as the 144-partner firm completes its long-awaited move into new offices at City Point, which has been widely viewed as a good deal for the practice. Management expects the firm to benefit from finally having all its staff under one roof. In recent years, Simmons has lagged behind its City rivals in profitability terms.
