As China awakens from its pandemic slumber, Latin America’s largest economy is courting investments in infrastructure, manufacturing, energy and commodities—work that requires guidance from lawyers.

Brazil is the biggest recipient of Chinese investment in Latin America, and China is Brazil’s biggest export market. Relations had cooled during the administration of Jair Bolsonaro, who was Brazil’s president during the pandemic. But the arrival of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who was elected president in January 2023, has lifted hopes for a better relationship.
