White & Case and Herbert Smith Freehills have advised on the $1.87 billion acquisition of Canadian company Cuprous Capital, which owns the Khoemacau copper mine in Botswana. 

The buyer is MMG Limited, which is a Hong Kong listed, Melbourne-based resources company that is owned by Chinese state-owned enterprise China Minmetals Corp. Herbert Smith Freehills has advised MMG on the acquisition with the U.K. firm’s team being led out of Brisbane, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. The U.K. firm did not respond to a request for comment.
