London litigation partners have pointed to the archaic attitudes within the justice system following news a senior judge has been disciplined for misconduct following a complaint of “rude and hostile” behaviour towards counsel.

A statement by the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) said that following a complaint, an inquiry was conducted that found Lord Justice Clive Lewis’ manner in a hearing “intervened excessively in counsel’s submissions, throughout the hearing, in a manner which became increasingly harsh and rude and to the extent that it constituted judicial bullying”.
