Editor’s Note: This chart ranks the 200 largest firms in the world by gross revenue for the fiscal year 2022. The Global 200 grew revenue by 1.2% between FY 2021 and FY 2022, while head count grew an average of 6.1%. That rise in head count resulted in lower productivity and a decline in revenue per lawyer of 4.6%.

The bulk of that head count growth and RPL decline was driven by the Second Hundred, which saw several firms outside of the U.S. and U.K. grow by hundreds of lawyers each. The Global 100 saw a slight gain in RPL of just under 1% while the Second Hundred saw a significant decline of 16%. In some cases where the firm did not provide data, figures were estimated.
