When Holman Fenwick Willan hired Singapore partner Peter Zaman in 2021, the business opportunity was clear: Zaman, a climate finance and environmental products expert, would be the lawyer to infuse one important element into all of the firm’s sector focuses in Asia—energy, commodities, aerospace, shipping, construction and insurance. That element is ESG.

“All of those sectors are what we would call heavy fossil fuel exposed sectors,” said Zaman, a former Singapore managing partner at Reed Smith who joined the U.S. firm in 2012 and relocated to Singapore in 2016. Prior to that, he was a partner at Clifford Chance, where he spent over a decade in its London office.
