The European Union’s General Court has stripped former Catalonia president Carles Puigdemont and other separatists of their parliamentary immunity as they face charges in Spain for their roles in the failed 2017 independence referendum.

The Luxembourg-based court rejected pleas by three Catalan separatists—and current members of the European Parliament; Puigdemont, Antoni Comín and Clara Ponsatí—to annul the Parliament’s decision to waive the members’ immunity as they face arrest warrants in Spain for their roles in trying to split Catalonia from Madrid in 2017.
