The Unified Patent Court (UPC) provides for a single jurisdiction covering up to 17 countries, for infringement or revocation action relating to European patents or European patent-based supplementary protection certificates.

The doors of the UPC open for business 1 June 2023, and in the run-up to the “sunrise” period for filing “opt-outs” that started 1 March 2023, patentees and applicants have been (metaphorically) asked the question: ‘Do you deny this court, do you abjure this court, is this court an abomination?’
