U.K. lawyers are set to earn more than £1 billion in legal fees from a wave of US-style class actions currently working their way through the UK’s competition court, according to research by Law.com International.

Almost 30 group action lawsuits have started in the U.K. since a change to the law in 2015 that allowed groups of individuals and businesses to bring competition law claims on an “opt-out” basis for the first time. This paved the way for multi-billion actions against the likes of Apple, Google and Meta, involving an estimated 195 million U.K. claimants. None of the cases have settled or reached a conclusion yet.
