Changes to Canada’s foreign investment rules will likely mean delays in closing transactions but also more work for deal lawyers.

The Canadian government last week introduced amendments to its Investment Canada Act, giving it greater power to review, block, or modify foreign investments in Canada on the basis of national security. The changes bring Canada in line with other countries such as the United States, the U.K., and Australia.
