One week on from the American midterm elections, it looks likely that the Republicans will retake the U.S. House of Representatives—albeit by the skin of their teeth.

One consequence of a GOP-controlled lower chamber that law firms will be conscious of—both in the U.S. and further afield—is the potential storm on the horizon over ESG. Earlier this month, a group of Republican senators wrote to 51 law firms, saying: “…your firm has a duty to fully inform clients of the risks they incur by participating in climate cartels and other ill-advised ESG schemes.”
