HFW and Reed Smith are among the law firms acting for the marine insurer and vessel owner involved in the seizing of the MV Ever Given, which held up global shipping traffic in the Suez Canal for six days in March after running aground.

Egypt seized the vessel on April 13 when insurers refused to immediately meet a demand for $916 million in compensation over loss of toll fees and reputational damage to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), according to a statement by UK P&I Club, the insurer to the ship’s owners.
