A defendant has won a class-action lawsuit for the first time ever in Australia, with the defendant’s law firm, Herbert Smith Freehills, saying it expects more class actions to go to trial in the future.
The shareholder class action against engineering firm Worley, only the second class action to reach judgment, was dismissed by the Federal Court on Friday, with the defendant awarded costs.
