In a round of questions before the Bundestag, German finance minister Olaf Scholz said he believed Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer should no longer receive government mandates due to the firm’s involvement in the cum-ex tax scandal.

In response to a question over whether companies with ties to the scandal, such as Freshfields, would be shut out of government work in the future, Scholz said: “Speaking for myself, with regard to the law firm you mentioned, I cannot imagine that new contracts will be awarded here”.
