In the words of the science fiction author William Gibson, the future is already here — it’s just not very evenly distributed. For law firms, the coronavirus crisis has made this immediately apparent, as outwardly similar firms demonstrated vastly differing levels of speed and flexibility in moving to the remote working arrangements imposed on them.

Most firms have by now fully stepped up to the immediate challenge of full time remote working. For many, something approaching business as usual has been achieved in areas where face-to-face contact is not an absolute necessity, such as most commercial law.
