Bird & Bird has appointed its former international technology and communications head, Graeme Maguire, as chair of the firm’s board.

Maguire has held several leadership roles at the firm since he joined in 2005, including co-head of international communications. He also previously sat on the firm’s strategy committee from 2015 to 2019 and founded the tech and comms group.

He joined Bird & Bird from Linklaters, where he had been a partner in the Magic Circle firm’s TMT group. He spent time on secondment at BT and Oftel while at the firm.

Maguire replaces Milan intellectual property partner Massimiliano Mostardini in the role. Mostardini had held the position since 2016.

Bird & Bird CEO David Kerr said in a statement: ”I’ve worked closely with Graeme for many years in his capacity of head of our tech and comms group and on the board, and I know that the firm will appreciate the perspective he brings to the role.

“It’s certainly an interesting and challenging time for us all right now, both professionally and personally, so Graeme and I are fully committed to working together to ensure our firm and its people continue to go from strength to strength.”
