White & Case, Macfarlanes and DWF are widening their remote working initiatives to cover more of their staff, as further firms in London introduce measures to limit the spread of coronavirus.

White & Case is allowing its lawyers and other London employees to work remotely from Monday, according to a spokesperson for the firm. According to one person with knowledge of the matter, the firm will be reviewing the remote working order on a weekly basis as advice on handling the coronavirus outbreak in the U.K. develops.

Macfarlanes has also informed its staff that they will be “permitting people to work from home more extensively than usual”, the firm’s senior partner Charles Martin told Law.com International’s Legal Week.

He added that the move was part of the firm’s “contingency planning” while the spread of the virus continues.

DWF, meanwhile, ran a remote working day on Thursday to test its systems.

A spokesperson for the firm said in a statement: “All of our people globally have been given the option to work from home, and around a third of our circa 4,100 people worked from home yesterday. We are also proactively operating some of our critical functions via home working.”

Fellow U.K. firm Simmons & Simmons is set to close its London office on Monday, as it follows others in testing its remote working capabilities in view of the virus outbreak. LinklatersSlaughter and May and Clifford Chance held mass remote working trials this week.

Meanwhile Taylor Wessing has closed its London office after one of its staff tested positive for the coronavirus.

The firm’s managing partner said Friday that “the person concerned has been self-isolating for the past week, has had a mild reaction and is recovering well at home”.
