More than 30 general counsel and senior lawyers have lined up to speak at this year’s Corporate Counsel Forum Middle East.

They include Microsoft head of corporate, external and legal affairs for the Gulf region, Joanne Fischlin, and Accenture’s EMEA managing director and legal lead, Francesca Gori.

The one-day event, to be held at the Ritz Carlton in Dubai 19 April, aims to generate debate on technological developments and challenges affecting general counsel in the United Arab Emirates region. It will feature peer-to-peer networking, topical discussions and interactive workshops.

Chaired by Flash Entertainment general counsel Andrew Cooke, it will also include a range of other speakers from General Electric chief information security officer, George Eapen, to the chief executive of Bridg, Moussa Beidas, who also co-founded the smartphone payment platform, and Eversheds Sutherland Middle East chairman Nasser Ali Khasawneh.

The conference will look specifically at several aspects of technology and will include an introduction to fintech and whether it is relevant for in-house lawyers. It will also focus on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity risks in the Middle East.

Other key topics will include employee engagement, how the role of in-house counsel is changing, competition law, leadership and development, as well as the benefits of diversity, KPIs and building an ethical culture.

The conference will be followed by the The Middle East Legal Awards 2018 held the next day (19 April). Baker McKenzie, Ashurst, Dentons and DLA Piper are among the firms competing to be named International Law Firm of the Year at these awards.
