Ropes & Gray has appointed a new co-managing partner in London, alongside a new London-based global co-head of private equity.

Private equity partner Will Rosen (pictured), who is also co-head of the firm's international practice group, will take up the position of co-managing partner in London.

He will take up the role alongside current office managing partner Mike Goetz with immediate effect. Goetz has been managing partner of the firm's London office since it launched in 2010.

Meanwhile, City private equity partner Phil Sanderson has been appointed global co-head of the firm's private equity group, joining private equity partners David Blittner and Will Shields. Sanderson, who acts on UK and international buyouts and M&A, joined the firm from Travers Smith in 2014.

The firm's managing partner David Chapin said: "Will's many years of experience, coupled with his proven leadership skills, will be an ideal fit with Mike's strategic vision for the office. I'm confident his appointment will further build upon the progress that Mike, together with the rest of the team in London, has achieved in establishing the firm's strong presence in the UK.

"I'm also delighted that Phil has joined David Blittner and Will Shields in heading our market-leading global private equity team – his leadership and knowledge of the UK market will be greatly valued as we build on what has been an extraordinarily successful year for the group."

The firm has seen a great deal of churn in London during the past 18 months with exits including London co-founder Maurice Allen, investment funds partners Monica Gogna and Anand Damodaran who joined Dechert and Kirkland & Ellis respectively, and finance partners Mark Wesseldine and Fergus Wheeler who joined King & Spalding.

Earlier this month, the firm made the eye-catching hire of Clifford Chance white-collar partner Judith Seddon to head its London international risk practice.

There have also been movements in the firm's leadership, with London finance partner Jane Rogers appointed to the firm's policy committee in November, with fellow City partner Mike Kazakevich taking over her role as global co-head of finance.

The firm has also selected corporate partner Julie Jones as its first ever female chair. She will succeed long-serving leader Bradford Malt at the end of 2019.
