CPA Global has appointed its first-ever general counsel with the hire of Ancestry.com legal vice president Ruth Daniels.

Daniels joined the legal service outsourcer (LSO) in September this year as part of CPA's expansion plans, following its acquisition by private equity house Cinven in March.

Prior to starting at the genealogy website Ancestry.com in 2007, Daniels was an associate and senior associate at DLA Piper and Pinsent Masons respectively. She has also held retail and marketing roles at Marks & Spencer, Accenture and Saatchi & Saatchi before moving into law.

The news comes after Ancestry.com was bought for $1.6bn (£1bn) last month in a purchase led by private equity firm Permira. Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, Clifford Chance, Kirkland & Ellis and Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz all picked up advisory roles on the deal.

CPA global chief executive Peter Sewell said: "Ruth brings to CPA strong international legal experience combined with commercial understanding and awareness, which is important as we continue to develop our business in both established and emerging markets in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific."

The move follows CPA's appointment of a new head of LSO, announced in February this year following the departure of former LSO chief Leah Cooper.

Cooper left the company in November 2011 for family reasons, with the outsourcer's chief financial officer and head of India operations Anand Sharma replacing her as head of global LSO and intellectual property.
