A new European Union public procurement Remedies Directive was issued on 11 December last year. The new Directive amends the existing
Remedies Directives and requires implementation by member states into national law by 20 December, 2009.

The Directive puts into law the Alcatel mandatory standstill period, with some refinements. It also provides new remedies for the illegal direct award of contracts.
