July and August can be a fallow time for the theatre and opera addict in London, so it’s good that groups like Holland Park Opera exist to give us our fix.

The performances are in a (fairly comfortable) tent in Holland Park. Don’t expect the sort of voices and production values that you get at the major houses. Do expect background noises from aircraft, passing dogs and peacocks and wrap up warmly for the last act. At its best, however, you’ll get some honest, enjoyable performances. Also they put on some rarities which anoraks like me will travel miles for.
