The one thing macho lawyers love more than pitting their wits against one another in court or in the dealroom is a battle of brute strength, the latest of which is the Great City Tug of War, which takes place today (14 September) at 5.30pm in Finsbury Square. The contest will be hosted by former Wimbledon footballer John ‘Gladiators’ Fashanu and pits lawyers from Slaughter and May, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Macfarlanes against a bunch of bankers from Lazards and Barclays Private Banking.

Macfarlanes senior partner Robert Sutton played a key role in orchestrating the event, which aims to raise some well-deserved cash for SeeAbility (formerly the Royal School for the Blind).
