The duty to promote equality of opportunity under section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998) has been in place since January 2000. After the initial flurry and production of equality schemes, the process has been settling down. Lawyers and advisers to businesses involved in public sector projects need to have an increasing awareness of the possible effects on timetables and bids.
