Mac fans rejoice with the much-anticipated unveiling of the 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro laptop with an Intel dual-core processor. It boasts a formidable performance boost over its PowerBook G4 predecessor, and follows the release of a 15-inch version earlier this year. It retains the minimalist Apple styling, with a slim aluminium casing that incorporates a built-in video camera for web conferencing.

Apple claims the 2.16GHz Intel processor is “up to five times faster” than the G4, and the system is fitted with a 120GB hard drive and 1GB of memory as standard. Aimed at business and design professionals, the laptop also comes loaded with Mac OS X Tiger, the iLife software suite, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon graphics for multimedia muscle. It is priced at £1,999, and will begin shipping next week.
