Herbert Smith has scored a lead role on BAA’s potential £8bn bid from Spanish company Grupo Ferrovial, acting opposite magic circle giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer on what promises to be one of the largest European takeovers of the year.

Herbert Smith corporate partner Gareth Roberts is leading the team advising BAA, the owner of many of the UK’s main airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. Spanish construction giant Ferrovial is on the verge of making an approach and has instructed regular counsel Freshfields.
