A very typical law firm response to a request for a secondee is to agree, in the rather vague hope that this will be of benefit to the client relationship – and thus the firm’s bottom line – as well as a good development opportunity for the seconded individual.

When our longstanding client South East Water approached the firm earlier this year asking if we could lend them a secondee, we could see that it presented an excellent learning opportunity for one of our younger lawyers, as well as presenting a chance to further cement the relationship with South East Water.
