Olswang has signed off one of its largest-ever corporate deals after being instructed for the first time by the Tchenguiz family on the £1.1bn acquisition of Somerfield.

Olswang was instructed in July by the consortium member, which had been advised by Linklaters for the majority of the bid. The family sought advice from separate counsel as Linklaters was providing overall advice to the consortium that acquired the supermarket last week, after a protracted bidding process.
