Over the years many solicitors have said to me that they wish they had had the opportunity to do pro bono work while at university. That opportunity now exists and is something I recommend you take for the benefit of your future career and for the good it provides to your community.
Pro Bono is the giving of free legal advice and assistance to those who could not otherwise afford or obtain it. The term pro bono comes from the Latin phrase pro bono publico meaning “for the public good” i.e. that legal knowledge helps not just the individuals and groups that obtain the knowledge, but also helps improve society itself. I believe it also helps people who give that advice, especially law students, and I believe that pro bono work is something you should certainly undertake while at university.
