Leading London law firms Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Linklaters have abandoned the controversial City Legal Practice Course (LPC) to develop bespoke courses with the College of Law, while the remaining five members of the consortium that developed the course have awarded the contract for teaching it solely to London’s BPP Law School.
The new courses, which will begin in the 2006-07 academic year, will be individually tailored to the main practice areas offered by each firm and will train students in the use of each firm’s own documentation. Unlike the City LPC, where students of the consortium members share classes with those headed for other firms, the new tailored courses will be exclusive to those destined for that firm, each of which take on more than 120 trainees every year.
