Ask most City lawyers practising in the investment funds field for their views on the Channel Islands as domiciles for specialised fund products and structured investment work and they are probably likely to respond by saying that they rate the Channel Islands quite highly. If pressed further, they are likely to indicate a preference for Guernsey as a funds domicile. Historically, Jersey has been viewed as a more difficult jurisdiction to do business in.

This perception is set to change in 2004 with a bold initiative by the Jersey Financial Services
Commission that should redress the balance between the islands and increase their combined attractiveness as domiciles for investment vehicles targeted as institutional, professional and sophisticated investors.
