The Bar Council has warned of the danger of political interference with the judiciary in its response to the consultation on the Government’s constitutional reform programme. “Ministers must not sow confusion by publicly attacking judgments they disagree with, while at the same time claiming they recognise the importance of judicial independence,” said chairman Matthias Kelly QC. However, the Bar Council’s response, which was submitted on 15 November, welcomed the proposed creation of a Supreme Court.
