The Bar Council has welcomed the debate on the silk system. We believe the rank of Queen’s Counsel is a kitemark of quality in the public interest.
The system of choosing silks has been modernised and made more transparent and fairer than ever before. That is not to say that further improvements could not be made, setting aside the constitutional questions about connection to the executive in the form of the Lord Chancellor.
