Firm set to drop KPMG from name

KPMG’s legal arm in New Zealand looks set to follow the lead of its German counterpart and remove KPMG from its local branding in the latest sign of pressure on accountancy-tied firms to bolster their independence.

The 120-lawyer KPMG Legal New Zealand is currently debating whether to re-brand in the wake of concerns that tied-law firms will not be viewed by their clients as independent from their auditing parents.
