We have taken a very enlightened view this year – instead of asking each of the servers to submit in advance their New Year’s resolutions, we have assumed that they are bound to get it right without the intervention of the technical support team. This follows on from our policy of sending the servers on holiday and, of course, allowing them to take part in dangerous sports. In fact we took much the same view about everyone’s New Year resolutions, with some surprising results.

The training team for instance resolved to ensure a much higher and more enthusiastic attendance at all IT training sessions – quite what makes them believe they can make a resolution that others will have to keep, I am not sure, but that is what they did.
