Austria settingOn 1 July this year the Austrian Competition Act came into force, legislation that could prove one of the most remarkable changes in Austrian competition law. The Act established three new authorities: a Federal Competition Authority, a Federal Competition Commission and a Federal Cartel Attorney. At the same time, the Austrian Cartel Act was amended to realign procedural rules to the newly created institutions.

The new authorities
The Competition Act established the Federal Competition Authority (FCA) as an independent authority within the Federal Ministry for Economic and Labour Affairs. The Federal Competition Authority is headed by a director general.
