US lawyers have been accused by delegates at the IBA’s Durban conference of flouting the domestic laws of countries across the world with the so-called practice of ‘fly-in fly-out’ without registering with local bars.

Speaking at a showcase session on professional duties on the opening day of the conference, lawyers from Taiwan, Germany and Switzerland said unregistered US lawyers were regularly breaking their countries’ domestic laws by flying in to practice US law out of hotel rooms.
