Imaging is one of those technologies that has been kicking around law firms for many years without ever really taking off.

I remember going into one firm a few years ago and seeing a great big box sitting in the corner of the IT manager’s office. It did not look like a server so I asked what it was, “Oh, that’s the optical jukebox for our imaging system.” I asked why it was not in the server room. “Well, we could never get the thing working and I needed room for a new server, so now I store old magazines in it.” At £80,000 it must have been the world’s most expensive filing cabinet.
