The Bar Council has approved measures to finally give employed barristers the right to conduct litigation, making them the only section of the Bar so far allowed to do so.

Changes to the Bar Council’s rules on litigation were approved by the Lord Chancellor’s Department on 30 April. An employed barrister will now be eligible to conduct litigation after 12 weeks’ training with a practising litigator.
