'Community patent' gets go-ahead

cook Long trailed plans to forge a European-wide patents regime took a major step forward this month as the European Parliament approved compromise proposals to create the so-called ‘community patent’.

On 19 February the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament voted through draft rules to create an integrated system for registering patents and handling cross-border disputes.
