Without wishing to be rude about the Big Question’s panel, it is tempting to ask exactly what planet the 3% of our panel members who believe Enron has been good for the big five’s legal arms have been living on these past few weeks.

Then again, perhaps they are taking a long view. After all, it could be argued that if the Enron scandal achieves anything it will bring the long-running debate about multi-disciplinary partnerships to a head. And several senior lawyers in accountancy-tied firms have indicated that it might even boost their firms’ prospects if their accountant parents are forced to give up auditing.
