An internal candidate has been appointed the new Treasury Solicitor, despite a drive to attract City candidates to the top post in the Government Legal Service (GLS).

A press statement issued by Downing Street on Monday (3 July) confirmed that Home Office head of legal, Juliet Wheldon, has been appointed to the most senior government legal position.
The appointment follows an extensive selection process. Headhunters were also brought in to trawl City firms for appropriate candidates.
