Investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Benson has appointed a new legal director of global markets.Gillian Hogarth has joined the bank to jointly head the six-lawyer global markets legal division with Simon Leifer. Hogarth fills a newly-created post where she will offer advice to the structured products group, which was set up approximately 10 months ago when a structured derivatives team joined Dresdner Kleinwort Benson from UBS.Hogarth said: “I was attracted to the position because it is a relatively green field. It is a new role within the company and focused on my primary interest, which is structured products.”The appointment comes six months after the bank set up a panel of five firms for its structured derivatives work. Hogarth said that she conducted an informal review of the panel when she joined and that it will remain unchanged. She added that her role will be to manage the basis on which work is outsourced.“Before I arrived here, the business units tended to instruct outside firms directly. Part of my role will be to provide overall management of outsourcing and, of course, to make cost savings.”The panel firms are Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Simmons & Simmons, Allen & Overy and Baker & McKenzie. Hogarth was head of the European legal team at General Refinancial Products for four years. She left in June 1998 to take a year’s career break.Michelle Bereaux replaced Hogarth at General Refinancial.
