Expert Witness Profile

Derek Graham is a senior project management and project controls expert with five-decades experience in the building industry, including eight-years as a mechanic, fifteen-years as a project manager, and thirty-years in project scheduling and estimation, in NY City and the Tri-State area.

Beginning in 1982 as a mechanic, he worked his way up from laborer, to carpenter and cabinet maker, cutting his teeth on high-end and custom residential projects - still his specialty. As a project manager/estimator, he advanced to senior levels after eight-years experience, before moving into project controls, in 2009.

Graham maintains his practice as a project controls expert, serving the industry on projects ranging from USD$100M - $4B. His unique combination of industry skills of mechanic, senior project manager, author, and expert, enables him to develop comprehensive, objective, and well crafted bulletproof expert opinions in a surprising number and variety of disciplines, and a wide range of perspectives: from owner, designer, and builder.

Graham’s expert services are equally distributed between plaintiff and defendant, and owner and contractor. His industries of expertise include:

  • Residential & Luxury Construction
  • Commercial
  • Bio-medical and Hospitals
  • Architecture
  • Tunnels
  • Light rail/subsurface
  • Aviation
  • Offices
  • Plant and Processing
  • Retail
  • Education
  • Entertainment
Graham has been providing expert services since 2008, shortly after his publication "Managing Residential Construction Projects: Strategies & Solutions," McGraw Hill (New York) began to attract interest in the legal industry. Since that time he has reviewed, prepared expert reports, and testified, in some 75 cases, including several states and Federal cases.
