In the global fallout following the coronavirus outbreak, the Middle East and Africa have been outliers, facing hugely challenging times albeit not to the extent some had predicted.
But though the virus hasn’t devastated these regions quite as it has much of the rest of the world, several nations had already faced major problems, including war, famine, sectarian tension, major political upheaval and economic malaise amid plummeting commodities and oil prices.
